RS/MP Reads

The RSMP READS committee is excited to announce that we will be offering our third annual reading series “Voices at the Margins” beginning Saturday, October 7th from 2-4pm. Future meeting dates are as follows. The meetings run from 2-4 with the exception of the film screening which will be longer, and future 2017-2018 meeting dates will be: October 7, December 2, February 3, April 7, June 2. Our syllabus includes poetry, film and texts that will immerse us in the lived experiences and subjectivity of artists and writer of color as well as the communities of which they are a part. As we did in our earlier series, we will share our associations and responses to the readings, reflect on the analytic themes that emerge, and offer clinical material that is salient.

Our former RSMP Reads Series: Black Lives & Black Voices

Description: Our growing awareness of systemic violence directed at African-Americans has put racism on the top of our social justice concerns. As the RSMP community gathered together to respond to events in Ferguson and listened many of us for the first time to Black Psychoanalysts who described their marginalization in our profession, we are reflecting more deeply on the absence of African American voices in our midst not to mention in our minds.

It is for these reasons that we are announcing that our first RSMP Reads series will focus on Black Subjectivity as expressed by African American writers and artists. We invite you to join us for three sessions of reading, reflecting, and experiencing contemporary works, current events, music, and art. In these sessions, we will be analyzing pieces that may help us gain a deeper understanding of and greater humility for black subjectivity.
